Young detectives explore forensics at WVU Tech day camp
Most days Jennifer Merkle is a 14-year-old student from Princeton, West Virginia who likes to read books about crime and forensic science. But for two days in June, she was a real-life forensic investigator, examining fingerprint evidence, interpreting bloodstain patterns, casting footwear impressions and investigating the scenes of heinous crimes to figure out how the deeds were done – and who might have done them.
At Camp STEM, students get a taste of college life
In WVU Tech’s Robert C. Byrd Learning Resource Center there’s
a near-constant buzz of whirring motors and clicking keyboards. It’s punctuated
by bouts of laughter and the exclamation that the little machine zigged when it
should have zagged. It’s the sound of Camp STEM’s popular robotics class. It’s
also the sound of high school students learning that a fascination with STEM
can be a very good thing.

WVU Tech summer camps season kicks off June 12
Summer’s here, and this week is the start of WVU Tech’s summer camp season. Middle and high school students from throughout the state will gather on the Beckley campus in June and July for three summer programs to study forensic investigation and STEM fields.
A notice about construction noise on Montgomery Campus during preparation of HiRise demolition
Some may have noticed an increase in noise and activity near the WVU Tech HiRise residence hall on the Montgomery campus recently as preparations are made for demolition of the building.
As part of the lease-purchase agreement with KVC
Health Systems, WVU has hired Dore & Associates through the state bidding
process to raze and remove the structure. The tentative date for demolition of
HiRise is Sunday, June 4, but preparations for the removal have already begun.
Last Montgomery campus commencement ceremony sends off 180 Golden Bears
On Saturday, May 6, more 180 graduates gathered in the Neal D. Baisi Athletic Center gymnasium in Montgomery for the last WVU Tech commencement ceremony on the more than 100-year-old campus.
