WVU Tech’s Communiversity initiative wins award

|

WVU Tech was honored with the prestigious Community Service and Leadership Award last night at the 105th Annual Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce Dinner and Awards Gala.

The event was held at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center and featured WVU President Michael T. Benson as the keynote speaker.

“Since 1991, the Community Leadership Award has been given annually to the business leader or organization who has most positively impacted the community through their excellence in business leadership and community service over their lifetime,” said Michelle Rotellini, President and CEO of the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce.

Rotellini says the major criteria to be considered for the award include giving freely and unselfishly of their time to community activities, inspiring others and acting as a role model or having a positive impact on the direction and success of an economic development project or community program, improving the lives of others and going over and above the expectation of their position or mission in providing community service.

The Chamber also recognized two other local organizations for their outstanding work for the Outstanding Contribution to The Arts and Mover of Mountains awards.

“We are proud to recognize West Virginia University Institute of Technology

Communiversity with this year’s Prestigious Community Service & Leadership Award for its continued commitment to partnership, service, and community engagement. Under the leadership of Dr. T. Ramon Stuart, WVU Tech’s Communiversity philosophy has demonstrated what is possible when higher education and community work hand-in-hand to strengthen our region and create meaningful impact throughout Southern West Virginia,” says Rotellini.

I am honored to accept this award which is not just about me, but it is a testament to the leadership and service that we provide at WVU Tech,” says WVU Tech President T. Ramon Stuart, Ph.D. “Communiversity is about making Beckley and southern West Virginia a better place to live, work and play, and we are dedicated to continue to grow that impact.”
