Student Nurses Association Packs 32 Thanksgiving Boxes for Community

|

The WVU Tech School of Nursing - Beckley Campus Student Nurses Association came together to assemble 32 baskets filled with a complete Thanksgiving meal for those in need within our community.

Sarah Bays, President of the Student Nurses Association at WVU Tech, said they challenged all nursing students, from freshmen to seniors, to help gather items for the baskets. Every basket was complete with a turkey or ham, and all the sides you’d need for a Thanksgiving meal.

“We have various nursing students who are doing community service to help us pack these boxes today,” said Bays.“It makes me very proud of our nursing program because we’ve never had this big of a turnout with our Thanksgiving boxes. It’s very important in nursing to start with the community, doing things like this, and giving back to the community,” she added. A table full of canned food.

Students are helping deliver the baskets today to families in the community and students on campus who are in need. One basket went as far as Greenbrier County.

Putting together Thanksgiving meals is something nursing at Tech has done for over 20 years.

Elijah Stewart, a freshman nursing student, says this is an important way to be involved in the community and what being a nurse is all about.

"It really demonstrates what our job as nurses are, which is to show empathy and to be of service to the community, which is what we are doing," says Stewart.
