
Patrick Brooks
Patrick Brooks has been appointed Interim Dean of Students at West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) in Beckley, West Virginia. A proud native of Wyoming County, Brooks brings both a personal connection to southern West Virginia and a professional track record of student advocacy, legal education, and public service.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from West Virginia University in 2007, graduating as a University Honors Scholar. He went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the WVU College of Law in 2010, where he was named a Public Interest Advocate Summer Fellow.
From 2012 to 2015, Brooks served as a house manager for a fraternity on WVU’s Morgantown campus while also operating a small law practice.
Before joining WVU Tech, Brooks served as Managing Attorney for WVU Student Legal Services, where he advised and represented students on a broad range of legal matters and led educational programming on student rights and responsibilities. He also worked as an Internal Investigator in the WVU Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, where he conducted investigations into alleged violations of university policy and Title IX.
Brooks’ legal career includes significant experience in southern West Virginia. Prior to his time at WVU, he served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and Assistant Public Defender in Raleigh County, and as a Staff Attorney with Legal Aid of West Virginia’s Beckley office. His work has consistently focused on access to justice, student support, and public service.
Outside of his professional roles, Brooks remains active with a variety of nonprofit organizations and enjoys travel and spending time outdoors.
