Condolences to the Nelson family

photo of Dr. Leonard C. NelsonIt is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the loss of one of our most beloved Golden Bears.

Dr. Leonard C. Nelson passed away on August 23, 2017 in Long Island, NY.

Dr. Nelson served as the president of West Virginia Institute of Technology for 25 years, the longest tenure of any Tech president.

Among his many accomplishments, he held the distinguished honor of professor emeritus and is the namesake of the WVU Tech College of Engineering and Sciences.

Dr. Nelson was a legend and will be remembered for his dedication to serving students and his passion for engineering and higher education. He will be known by future generations as they pursue the disciplines he loved the most. His legacy lives on.

More information about Dr. Nelson is available in his bio

A viewing will be held for friends and family on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home in East Setauket, NY.

We will deeply miss Dr. Nelson. The Nelson family has the heartfelt condolences of their Tech family.

Carolyn Long
