What is the Early Enrollment Program?
Early Enrollment is a program allowing advanced high school students to take college courses. It is available at select high schools and online.
Which courses are available online at WVU Tech?
Check out our list of early enrollment courses.
How much credit will I earn?
Early
Enrollment courses are generally 3-4 credit hours each.
Is this a “real” college course?
Early Enrollment courses meet the same rigorous standards as any WVU Tech course. These courses use the same syllabi, textbooks, outcomes and objectives as the courses offered to traditional WVU Tech students.
Are there restrictions?
Early
Enrollment courses are not for all high school students. Early Enrollment
students should be juniors or seniors with computer access, as well as the
maturity and discipline to work independently. Normally, students should take
only 2 Early Enrollment courses per semester and should be ready to access
their courses at least once each day. All courses are academically challenging
college courses. Be prepared!
Does the credit transfer?
Normally, yes. However, the transfer of college credit is always at the discretion of the receiving school.
How much does it cost?
Tuition
for Early Enrollment courses for 2023-2024 is estimated at $25 per credit hour for in-state students and $75 per credit hour for non-resident students.
How can I find out more?
High school students should contact their teacher, guidance counselor or principal. High school teachers, administrators and home schools should contact the Early Enrollment Office by email at TechEE@mail.wvu.edu or 304.929.1685.
For current students
How do I obtain a user name and password to access eCampus?
To obtain your user name and password, you’ll need your WVU Tech ID number. This will be sent to you by USPS mail the first time you register for a WVU Tech course.
Once you have your ID number, go to login.wvu.edu and click on CLAIM YOUR
ACCOUNT. The same user name and password that you set up will also give you
access to your eCampus account.
Note: Returning students use the same student ID number. If your password has expired, contact ITS at 304.293.4444 or go to login.wvu.edu for more information.
How can I obtain my textbooks?
To obtain textbooks, go to the WVU Tech (not WVU) website, wvutech.edu. Click on the “Current Students” button and then click on the “Campus Bookstore” button. Once there, click on “Textbooks”. Select the appropriate information for your class (i.e. Fall Semester, ENGL 101, Section T12). Then click on “Find Materials for Course” at the bottom of the page. Purchasing options for the required book will then be presented.
You can also call the bookstore at 304.929.1360. Make sure to specify that you are an Early Enrollment student. Please be sure to have your books before class starts!
Can I drop the course?
Yes,
however, all schedule changes, including adds/drops/withdrawals of courses,
MUST be completed by the WVU Tech Early Enrollment Office. A request from the
student, the parent/legal guardian, or the designated high school official is
required. Our online form can be used.
Students
will receive a “W” on their permanent academic transcript for withdrawing from
college courses after the official add/drop deadline. A “W” isn’t great, but it
is much better than an “F.” Plan accordingly and check the academic calendar.
My professor didn’t send me an assignment this week. Does that mean I have the week off?
Nope. This is college – it’s up to you to make sure you’re doing the work you need to complete the course. First, read the syllabus on eCampus. Spend some time learning all about your eCampus course. Make sure you’re checking both your mix.wvu.edu email account and your eCampus messages. Knowing where to find your assignments, when work and when tests are due, etc., is your responsibility. There are assignments every week. Everything has a deadline, and if you miss the deadline, you can expect a score of 0.
When is payment due?
Payment is due in full when you start the course. Early enrollment students cannot apply for financial aid.
I sent my professor an email but they never responded. What do I do?
Your
professors do want to help, so if you’re not getting a response (after a
reasonable amount of time), it’s not because you’re being ignored. When
emailing your professor, always be sure to use the email listed on the syllabus
– this is usually their mail.wvu.edu address. Most DO NOT use the
mix.wvu.edu email address. If that doesn’t resolve your issue, contact us.
I’m confused about a course. What’s expected of me? When is my assignment due? What’s this assigned reading all about?
You might run into some questions along the way. Don’t panic!
- Step 1: Check the syllabus
- Step 2: Check the course website for instructions
- Step 3: Email your professor and let them know what you’re concerned about. They’re here to help you!
How do I access the online course?
Early Enrollment courses are taught through the WVU eCampus learning system. To access this system, go to eCampus.wvu.edu. Once you log on, click on the course title to enter the course. Courses are not available in eCampus until the first day of the class. Once you do access the course, be sure to familiarize yourself with the syllabus!
