WVU Tech announces Golden Bear basketball camps this summer

This summer, local students interested in taking their basketball skills to the next level can participate in WVU Tech’s Golden Bear basketball camps. The camps will be in Van Meter Gymnasium at 350 South Kanawha Street in Beckley on the WVU Tech campus. The first camp will be June 6-9, 2022 and the second August 1-4, 2022.

The camps are open to students ages 8 to 14 years old. Those 8-10 years old will attend the camp from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and the 11-14 age group will play from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

Payton Sturm, Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for the Golden Bears, says students can expect four days of individual skill stations, camp competitions, free throw contests and daily five-on-five games.

“We want the campers to gain fundamental skills like shooting, passing, ball-handling and how to play in team settings. Most importantly, this is a camp focused on having fun and enjoying the game of basketball,” Sturm says.

The cost of the camp is $125 per player. Participants can pay on the first day of the camp, but registration is needed. Those interested can register to attend at camps.wvutech.edu.
