Expanding Your Horizons conference to connect middle school girls to STEM in Beckley

WVU Tech will host the Expanding Your Horizons 2019 West Virginia Conference on Saturday, March 30 in the Life Sciences Building (100 Mel Hancock Way).

The day-long event will connect middle school girls with STEM role models to learn more about STEM careers and to explore activities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The conference is still accepting participants. Those who wish to register can do so using EYH’s online form. The only cost associated with attending the conference is a $5.00 registration fee.

Organized by the West Virginia chapter of the Association for Women in Science, the conference is part of the national Expanding Your Horizons Network, which began offering conferences in 1976. The network has since grown its annual conference schedule to include more than 120 locations across the United States.

Faculty members and students from WVU and WVU Tech will serve as mentors during the conference. They will assist students with the STEM exploration activities, help them explore STEM fields and answer their questions about studying these fields at the college level.

AWIS-WV has formed a partnership with several branches of the American Association of University Women in West Virginia to organize the EYH conferences. The EYH conferences have been supported financially by grants from the WV Higher Education Policy Commission  Division of Science and Research, the  WV Department of Education Sex Equity Program, the WVU Foundation, the  WVU Faculty Senate Program for Public Service and by donations from local business and industry.
