WVU LaunchLab in Beckley to host Idea Pitch Competition, Thursday, February 21

Well-dressed students stand with their backs to the camera, pitching a business idea to a crowd of dozens of people sitting in a conference room.

The WVU LaunchLab – Beckley is hosting an Idea Pitch Competition on Thursday, February 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Innovation Building, Room 101. Three students from Concord University and three from WVU Tech have been selected to conduct a four-minute pitch of a product or service to a panel of judges for a chance to win $5,000 in prize money to help them further develop their idea.

This is the second year for this event, with a record number of 32 applications between the two schools. Pitch events are a popular way for entrepreneurs and innovators to present an idea in an earlier stage of development to get feedback from experienced judges, network with like-minded individuals, meet industry experts and win business funding.

“Southern West Virginia is never short of innovative ideas that can lead to new businesses and patentable products,” said Nora Myers, Director of WVU LaunchLab – Beckley. “The students at Concord and WVU Tech have come up with a wide variety of ideas from technical and healthcare products to community solutions. I am always energized by the passion and new ideas they bring to our region.”

Judges for the event include industry experts, entrepreneurs, entrepreneur educators and start-up business coaches. WVU Tech students Dane Gaiser, Christina Stover, Salem AlEidan, Darton Hoover and Tristan Price will be participating in the event.
