WVU Tech celebrates '90s-themed homecoming with week of events

Homecoming 2018

WVU Tech will host its “Totally Rad ’90s” Homecoming festivities beginning Monday, October 1 and running through Saturday, October 6.

The celebration of the WVU Tech community will kick off with campus cup events for students, including a ’90s-themed eating contest and a “Double Dare”-inspired obstacle course.

On Thursday, October 4, the WVU Tech History Department will host Dr. Ken Sullivan, former executive director of the West Virginia Humanities Council. Dr. Sullivan will deliver the annual Otis K. Rice Lecture at 6:30 p.m. in Carter Hall. His talk “Of Time and the River: The History or Thurmond” will examine nearly 150 years of Thurmond, West Virginia. The event is free and open to the public.

Friday, October 5 will feature the annual State of Tech address at 3:30 p.m. in the Administration and Extension Building Auditorium at 410 Neville Street. Interim Campus President Dr. Gerald Lang will provide and update on current campus activities and future plans.

That evening, the community is invited to cheer on the Golden Bear volleyball team as they take on Carlow University in the Van Meter Gym at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 6, alumni will gather for a special breakfast event at Carter Hall ( tickets required). Then at 10:30 a.m., the Homecoming parade will run along South Kanawha Street. The parade is family-friendly and open to the public ( see the route here).

Students, employees and alumni are invited to a Homecoming cookout after the parade on the Carter Hall Lawn. Students will need to present their WVU Tech ID while alumni and employees will need to purchase tickets in advance.

Volleyball will play Point Park University in the Van Meter Gym at noon while men’s and women’s soccer will face off against Cincinnati Christian at the Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., respectively.

Saturday evening’s festivities include Monty’s Totally Rad Interactive Arcade during Beckley Chili Night. The interactive, family-friendly event features activities for kids and adults.
