More than 400 new students to attend WVU Tech orientation August 12-14

The WVU Tech campus will welcome more than 400 new students for New Student Orientation, August 12-14.

On Sunday, August 12, new students will move into residence halls from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. That afternoon, the University will host a welcome picnic for students and families on the Carter Hall lawn. That event is expected to host nearly 1,000 guests.

On Monday, August 13, new students will attend a convocation ceremony in the Van Meter Gymnasium at 9:45 a.m. A livestream of the convocation ceremony will be available at orientation.wvutech.edu.

On Tuesday, August 14, hundreds of new students will engage in a Golden Bears Give Back service project. The group will work with local nonprofit groups at more than 20 sites throughout the Beckley region. The annual event is the largest single service project of the year at Tech, and this year’s version is expected to result in more than 1,500 service hours.

That evening, new students will enjoy a block party on the Carter Hall Lawn hosted by United Bank.

Local residents should expect increased vehicle and foot traffic in Uptown Beckley and along South Kanawha Street beginning Sunday.

The first day of classes for the 2018-2019 school year will begin on Wednesday, August 15.
