Golden Bear Weekend festivities to honor outstanding Tech alumni

Golden Bear Weekend 2018 is March 2-3.

WVU Tech will host the second-annual Golden Bear Alumni Weekend on Friday March 2 and Saturday, March 3.

The event will bring together the WVU Tech community to celebrate the University’s Alumni of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. The weekend will also introduce Tech’s first Nelson Distinguished Young Alumni award winner and host a memorial reception honoring the late Dr. Leonard C. Nelson, who served as president of WVU Tech for 25 years and is the namesake of the College of Engineering and Sciences.

Friday’s events will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a special remembrance of Dr. Nelson in the Carter Hall auditorium. At 5:30 p.m., the University will recognize mechanical engineering graduate Andrew Blatt, ’12, as the first recipient of the annual Nelson Distinguished Young Alumni Award.

Saturday will kick off with breakfast and a campus tour for alumni, faculty and staff. That evening, the festivities will move to The Resort at Glade Springs, where a reception hosted by the Tech Golden Bear Alumni Association will begin at 5:00 p.m.

The induction dinner for the WVU Tech Athletic Hall of Fame will begin at 6:00 p.m. This year’s inductees include football players Forest Mann, ’60, Frank Spangler, Jr., ’75, and Quinton Barnes, ’96.

At 6:15 p.m., an induction dinner for the 2018 Alumni of the year will honor Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering and Sciences inductee Mickey Reeves, ’78, and the late Reverend Roy Gene Crist, ’86, inductee for the College of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences.

The weekend’s events are open to the community as well as WVU Tech alumni, students and employees. Guests must use the following online form to RSVP to events they plan to attend. The Hall of Fame and Alumni of the Year dinner events cost $40 per plate.

Golden Bear Alumni Weekend is supported by funding from Hometown Subaru, the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering and Sciences, the Tech Golden Bear Alumni Association and Eckley Orthodontics.
