Nora Myers named director of WVU Tech’s LaunchLab in Beckley

WVU Tech LaunchLab director, Nora Myers.

Nora Myers has been named director of WVU Tech’s LaunchLab, a resource center for entrepreneurial WVU Tech students who want to start or grow new business initiatives.

Myers began her work at WVU Tech on August 21. In this role, she will provide guidance and resources to students interested in starting businesses. LaunchLab services include helping develop business plans, conducting market research, protecting intellectual property, accessing technical development expertise and recruiting partners and team members from the university community and beyond.

Myers will work closely with the WVU LaunchLab in Morgantown to connect students to resources and opportunities on both campuses. The LaunchLab also engages directly with the community through its partnership with the NRGRDA WV Hive. The LaunchLab and Hive are co-located on the first floor of the Innovation Building on the WVU Tech campus in Beckley.

“WVU is committed to helping West Virginians prosper by diversifying our economy. The LaunchLab provides students with the tools they need to commercialize their innovations,” said Mindy Walls, assistant vice president for entrepreneurship and innovation at WVU in Morgantown. “Nora’s vast experience in entrepreneurship and higher education makes her a perfect fit for this program. We’re very excited to see how the initiative will flourish in Beckley under her care.”

Prior to taking the position at WVU, Myers managed Nora Myers Consulting, a small business management consulting firm focused on problem identification and solutions. She spent 13 years at the University of Charleston as the executive director of the Entrepreneurship Center, focusing on access to capital, and as an assistant professor in the Master of Business Administration & Leadership program. Myers received her MBA from the Kelley School at Indiana University in Bloomington and a bachelor’s degree in management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. She completed additional training at NASBIC’s Venture Capital Institute.

“I am very pleased to join the WVU Tech community and to work in the LaunchLab,” said Myers. “Our students can launch their careers with not only a degree but an innovative mindset, which is crucial to our economic resilience in West Virginia. Young innovators are very important to our state, whether they start their own business as entrepreneurs or help their future employers remain innovative and competitive.”

The WVU LaunchLab is located on the first floor of the Innovation Building in room 109. Students can call 304.929.1343 or email launchlab@mail.wvu.edu to make an appointment with Myers or to use the MakerLab on the premises. Walk-ins are also welcome on a first-come, first-served basis during regular business hours. Find out more about LaunchLab services and features at launch.wvu.edu.

The LaunchLab is part of the WVU IDEA Ecosystem, a university-wide network of centers, offices and programs that fosters and supports innovation and entrepreneurship in WVU System students, faculty and staff while engaging the statewide community.
