WVU Tech kicks off fall semester with orientation and first day community events

Students play games at new student orientation in the Van Meter Gym.

August 16 is the first day of classes and the beginning of WVU Tech’s operation solely on the Beckley campus.

Leading up to the first day of classes, the university will host a range of new student orientation events to welcome newcomers and help them get acclimated to the college experience.

New students will move into residence halls August 12-13. Roadways near campus, specifically South Kanawha Street, could see an increase in traffic as a result.

On Sunday evening, students and their families will enjoy a picnic celebration at 4:30 p.m. on the Carter Hall lawn.

Orientation activities will commence on Monday, August 14 with a formal convocation ceremony at 9:00 a.m. in the Van Meter Gymnasium, followed by sessions on campus resources and making good choices during the first year of college. On Tuesday, August 15, new students will participate in a series of community service projects throughout Beckley.

On Wednesday, August 16, WVU Tech will host a ceremony commemorating the first day of classes on the lawn of Carter Hall at 12:30 p.m. The ceremony is open to the community and light refreshments will be served.

Those wishing to commemorate the special day are encouraged to visit the photo booth on the first floor of the Robert C. Byrd Learning Resource Center between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16.
