WVU Tech to host Golden Bear Weekend, an alumni and community celebration, on April 7-8

West Virginia University Institute of Technology will host Golden Bear Weekend on April 7-8, 2017. The celebration is a weekend of activities to honor notable alumni and connect with the community.

On Friday, April 7, WVU Tech alumni will meet at Bunker’s at Glade Springs for the Beckley chapter kickoff at 7 p.m. The chapter aims to serve WVU Tech alumni in counties throughout Southern West Virginia.

Saturday’s events will begin at Epling Stadium, weather permitting. At 11 a.m., WVU Tech students from the Society of Automotive Engineers Baja and Aero teams will showcase their racing buggies and remote-controlled planes. Attendees will also be able to participate in interactive presentations with the Association for Women Engineers, Scientists, or Mathematicians Empowerment (AWESOME). At noon, WVU Tech baseball will play a doubleheader at the stadium. The events at the stadium are open to the public.

The university will host a networking and dinner reception beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening at Glade Springs. A dinner honoring WVU Tech’s Athletic Hall of Fame inductees – Michael A. Miller, ’76, Greg Saunders, ’87 and Joseph Martin, ’00 – will begin at 6:30 p.m. A separate dinner for WVU Tech’s Alumni of the Year awardees – Dr. Traci Boyd Acklin, ’94 and Stacey Daniel Fragile, J.D., ’96 – will begin at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets for the evening’s events cost $36, and include admission to the reception and either the Alumni of the Year or Athletic Hall of Fame dinner. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, March 31. Saturday’s events, especially the awardee reception and dinner provide an opportunity for business and community leaders in the area to network and connect with members of the Golden Bear community.
