TRANSFER TO WVU TECH FOR F-1 STATUS HOLDERS

Procedures for Transferring to WVU Tech from Another School in the U.S.  If you are transferring to WVU TECH from another U.S. institution, follow one of the procedures outlined below, according to your situation.  In all cases, remember that an International Student Transfer Form to confirm status will be required.  This form may be downloaded from the International Student Services website.

Individuals traveling outside the United States prior to beginning your program at WVU Tech:

If your visa has expired or if you never obtained a visa in the status you currently hold because you changed your status after coming to the U.S.:

1.      Before leaving the U.S., you must notify your international student adviser at your old school of your plans to transfer so that SEVIS records can be updated.  Your old school will provide a release date to SEVIS so that WVU Tech will have access to your SEVIS record.  WVU Tech can then issue an "initial" I-20.

2.      Go to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate overseas. Take with you:
(a) your passport
(b) I-20 form (F-1 students) from WVU Tech
(c) documentation of financial support.

3.      The visa issuing officer will give you a visa and will mark "WVU Tech" on it.

4.      When you re-enter the U.S., you must show again at the port of entry your passport, the I-20 form from WVU Tech and your financial documentation.

5.      Report to International Student Services within 15 days of the program start date.

If  you have a valid (unexpired, multiple-entry) visa in the status you will hold at WVU Tech:

1.      Notify your international student/scholar adviser at your current school of your  plans to transfer, so SEVIS can be updated.   Your old school will provide a release date to SEVIS so that WVU Tech will have access to your SEVIS record.  WVU Tech can then issue an "initial" I-20.

2.      You do not have to go the U.S. consulate. Simply re-enter the U.S. with your new WVU Tech I-20 or DS-2019 and financial documentation. Point out to the immigration officer at the port of entry that upon this entry you are transferring to a different institution.

3.      Report to International Student Services within 15 days of the program start date.

Individuals NOT leaving the United States before beginning your program at WVU Tech:

1.      Notify your international student adviser at your current school that you plan to transfer to WVU Tech, so SEVIS can be updated with a release date.  Then, WVU Tech will have access to your records in SEVIS and can issue an "initial" I-20.

2.      Carefully read and sign bottom of page 1 of WVU Tech I-20 and bring it with your passport and all other visa related documents to International Student Services within 15 days of enrollment here.

3.      An international student adviser will process your papers and complete the transfer in SEVIS..

NOTE: The  SEVIS transfer entry is essential. Without it, your transfer has not been validated and you will be considered out of status 15 days after  enrolling at WVU Tech.
