Procedures for Transferring FROM WVU Tech to Another School in the U.S.

If you are transferring from WVU Tech to another U.S. institution, follow one of the procedures outlined below, according to your situation.

Individuals traveling outside the United States prior to beginning your association with the new school:

If your visa has expired or if you never obtained a visa in the status you currently hold because you changed your status after coming to the U.S.:

·        Before you leave the U.S., notify International Student Services at WVU Tech that you plan to transfer.  We will then enter a release date in SEVIS, so that the new school can access your records in SEVIS and issue an "initial" I-20.

·        Go to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate overseas. Take with you:

·        Your passport

·        I-20 form from the new school

·        documentation of financial support.

·        The visa issuing officer will give you a visa with the name of the new school noted on it.

·        When you re-enter the U.S., you must show again at the port of entry your passport, the I-20 form from the new school and your financial documentation.

If you have a valid (unexpired, multiple-entry) visa in the status you will hold at the new school:

·         Notify International Student Services at WVU Tech that you plan to transfer.  We will then enter a release date in SEVIS so that the new school can access your records and issue an I-20.

·         You do not have to go the U.S. consulate. Simply re-enter the U.S. with the new school's I-20and financial documentation. Point out to the immigration officer at the port of entry that upon this entry you are transferring to a different institution.

Individuals NOT leaving the United States before beginning your association with the new school:

A.      If you are an F-1 Student

·         Notify International Student Services at WVU Tech that you plan to transfer.  We will then enter a release date in SEVIS so that the new school can access your records and issue an I-20.

·         Carefully read and sign bottom of page 1 of the new school's I-20 and take it with your passport and all other visa related documents to the international student adviser at the new school within 15 days of enrollment there.

·         The international student adviser at the new school will process your papers and complete your transfer into SEVIS.

NOTE: You will be considered out of status 15 days after enrolling in the new school if you do not report to the international student advisor so that you can be updated in SEVIS.
