OBTAINING A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

To obtain a Social Security Number you must go to:

Social Security Administration

Suite 300 Charleston Federal Center

500 Quarrier Street

Charleston, WV 25301

Open 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday

Location: Corner of Court and Quarrier Streets

Approximately two blocks from the KRT terminal

 

Take with you as identification:

1. Employment Authorization or job offer letter

2. Personal identification at least one year old

(If passport is more than one year old, or if you have a copy of your birth certificate, either will be acceptable)

3. Passport

4. I-20

5. I-94 (white card in your passport)

6. Letter from employer

7. Letter from International Student Services

When applying for the Social Security Number ask for a receipt for your application. This receipt may be presented to your department secretary with the Employment Data Form you receive at this office in order for you to be placed on the University Payroll.

To reach the Social Security Administration office:

Take the KRT bus from Montgomery to Charleston. The terminal station is on Laidley Street. Perpendicular to Laidley Street on one side is Quarrier Street. When you reach Quarrier Street, turn right. The Charleston Federal Center is on the right. The address (500) is clearly shown on the building.
