Accessible Parking

How to Apply

Application for temporary accessible parking can be made in the Office of Disability Services. Appropriate documentation must be provided to the Office of Disability Services. Medical documentation should not be submitted to the Campus Safety Office, Admissions and Records, or the Registrar's Office.

If a person wants to apply for a temporary accessible parking permit they just contact the Office of Disability Services and the Campus Safety Office in person. They should bring with them appropriate documentation that substantiates a need for temporary accessible parking. If you have questions please contact the Office of Disability Services at (304) 981-6210 and/or the Campus Safety Office at (304) 442-3101.

Documentation for Accessible Parking

Documentation of a disability that requires accessible parking should be provided to the Office of Disability Services. Documentation should be in the form of a signed, dated, medical report on official stationary by an appropriate medical professional. It should include all of the following:

  1. a description of a specific diagnosis
  2. a statement that accessible parking is needed; and
  3. a statement of the length of time the accessible parking will be needed.

The Office of Disability Services will accept documentation by mail, fax, or in person.

WVU Guidelines for Accessible Parking

Some individuals may find that their need for accessible parking extends past a temporary permit. If the nature of the request is longer that one month, it may be necessary to obtain a state permit issued by the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles or your home state. The West Virginia State application forms, which need to be completed by your physician, are available at the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles office. There are rules and regulations that you must follow when accessing accessible parking on campus. More information can be obtained through the Office of Disability Services at (304) 981-6210 and/or the Campus Safety Office at (304) 442-3101.
