Welcome to the home page for the Publishing Innovation Center being developed at West Virginia University Institute of Technology. The Innovation Center is being planned by the Department of Printing in conjunction with our Newspaper Operations Advisory Committee.

The Innovation Center is being designed to attract, prepare, and retrain individuals in publishing and newspaper careers.

The Innovation Center will be centered in the Upper Kanawha Valley Technology Community Building in Montgomery. This building was recently built on the site of the old Murphy's building on Third Avenue. Three other buildings on the block were removed to provide a large parking lot for the building. Fund raising efforts are now underway, with  $1.5 million already raised for labs and other facilities within the Center.

Several grants have recently been received for the build-out within the building. Bids were opened and a contract let in November, 2006. The build-out is scheduled to start around the first week of January, with completion in the Spring of 2007.

The Innovation Center will be a showplace for the mechanics of printing and publishing production featuring current and innovative technology. There will be meeting space with multimedia presentation capability, a 75-seat electronic auditorium, four laboratories, and classroom space. The Publishing Innovation Center will be a learning place for printing students at Tech, a continuing education center for industry, and a multi-use facility for the Tech campus and the community.
