Diesel, Mining Programs at Community College

Montgomery, WV– There are jobs in this region of the state that pay high wages and require only one or two years of education after high school.

The Community and Technical College at WVU Tech (CTC at WVU Tech) in Montgomery, WV, has approved new technical programs that will provide skilled workers who are in high demand. In response to the diesel and mining industries’ pleas for more employees who have the know-how for these high-paying jobs, these programs will assist in getting workers in the industries–in a short time frame.

The diesel technology program, a two-year associate degree, was set up by industry partners including Walker Machinery, Rish Equipment, and Mountain International. These partners have provided new engines, tools, scholarship dollars, and cash match for grants to start the degree.

With only one year of study, individuals can acquire skills as an electrical mining specialist, a mechanical mining specialist, or an electro-mechanical mining specialist.

For information regarding these and other one- or two-year technical programs in areas such as building construction, computer network security, printing, medical assisting, dental hygiene, medical transcription (on-line), and engineering technology, call 442.3149. Registration for fall semester is going on now–and two special registration events are planned: Tuesday, August 8, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. in Davis Hall and from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 18, in the College of Business and Economics (COBE) Building.
