An Introduction to WVU Tech

This page provides a brief introduction to the West Virginia University Institute of Technology. For more information, we hope you will continue to explore our website, talk with recent graduates and their parents, and, if possible, visit our campus with your son or daughter.

West Virginia University Institute of Technology is known for its more than 40 excellent baccalaureate programs in engineering, sciences, mathematics, health care, business, humanities and social sciences. Our programs are housed in two colleges and the department of nursing:

A WVU Tech education combines rigorous academic study with the excitement of discovery within a caring campus community. Our undergraduate students have hands-on research and work experiences that are usually available only to graduate students.

When your son or daughter is admitted, there is a welcoming spot for them here. With a 14-to-1 students faculty ratio, WVU Tech offers small classes with individual attention.

WVU Tech places strong emphasis on building community. We offer abundant opportunities for a rich life experience on campus with numerous clubs and student organizations, a student newspaper, Greek life, intercollegiate varsity sports and intramurals for men and women, music, theater, on-campus entertainment, tutoring, career planning and counseling services.

Our campus is located in Montgomery, a small and safe community which is centrally located between two of West Virginia’s most vibrant cities, the state capital, Charleston, and Beckley.

Nearby is some of the most scenic mountain country in the eastern United States, with outdoor activities in downhill skiing, hiking, mountain biking and white water rafting.

WVU Tech is also an exceptional educational value. We offer a variety of financial aid packages to qualifying students who are residents of West Virginia and those native to other states and countries – for academic performance, financial need, and to those students who are first in their family to attend college.

Members of our financial aid staff work one-to-one with students and families to determine student eligibility for grants, scholarships, student loans and work/study programs. Being considered for financial aid is as simple as applying for admission at www.wvutech.edu and submitting the completed FAFSA form by March 1.
