About the Academy

The week-long camp is held on WVU Tech's campus in Beckley, West Virginia and features a variety of STEM classes, special mini projects, field trips and female guest speakers from STEM professions.

While attending the Academy, you'll meet professors who are experts in their fields and college students studying the STEM fields that interest you. You'll attend classes, conduct experiments and learn about the exciting careers waiting for women in STEM fields.
Academy students will be able to take courses in computer science, chemistry, biology, mathematics and civil, electrical and biomedical engineering. There's something for everyone!

The Academy costs $350, which covers all housing, meals, travel and activities for the week.
There are full and partial need-based scholarships available for students who qualify. Students should complete the scholarship portion of the general application if they wish to apply for an Academy scholarship.
Academy Instructors and Counselors
The Academy's instructors are WVU Tech professors who are experts in the fields of engineering, mathematics, the basic sciences and forensic investigation. Our instructors will provide detailed lectures and demonstrations, work with students on mini projects and attend field trips.

The Academy's counselors are female upper-class WVU Tech students majoring in STEM fields. Our counselors are selected for their academic excellence and experience as program counselors, resident assistants or high school outreach activities coordinators. The counselors will live in the residence halls with you, eat with you in the Bears Den, help you with your projects and talk to you about their majors and what it's like to study STEM fields in college.
