VISION STATEMENT

TECH 2010

West Virginia University Institute of Technology in the year 2010 will take the leadership role in higher education for the southern region of the state.  The new Tech will be a high-tech, multi-site, higher education delivery engine which will be a prime source of support for industry, jobs, and expansion of economic development in the southern region of the state.

WVU Tech will be a carefully integrated, fully compatible component of West Virginia University delivering education in appropriate disciplines.  The new Tech will successfully retain the high standards of “Students First” and quality undergraduate education, while developing and adding programs designed to promote lifelong learning and professional and workforce development.

Access to higher education will be greatly enhanced by the new and vibrant WVU Tech for both traditional and nontraditional students.  National and international connections will enhance the diversity and size of the student body, and these connections will contribute to economic development in the state, helping to attract industry and capital to the southern region.

The new Tech will retain its historic focus of science, engineering, and technology.  At the same time, further integration with West Virginia University will allow WVU Tech to deliver broader and more diversified programs of liberal arts and human and behavioral studies.  The vibrant and scintillating characteristics of Tech will attract substantial increases in institutional support.  A major benefit will be a higher level of assistance available to students, allowing more students than ever to receive the coveted WVU Tech degree.
