VISION
STATEMENT
TECH 2010
West Virginia University Institute of Technology
in the year 2010 will take the leadership role in higher education for the
southern region of the state. The new
Tech will be a high-tech, multi-site, higher education delivery engine which
will be a prime source of support for industry, jobs, and expansion of economic
development in the southern region of the state.
WVU Tech will be a carefully integrated, fully
compatible component of West Virginia University delivering education in
appropriate disciplines. The new Tech
will successfully retain the high standards of “Students First” and quality
undergraduate education, while developing and adding programs designed to
promote lifelong learning and professional and workforce development.
Access to higher education will be greatly
enhanced by the new and vibrant WVU Tech for both traditional and
nontraditional students. National and
international connections will enhance the diversity and size of the student
body, and these connections will contribute to economic development in the
state, helping to attract industry and capital to the southern region.
The new Tech will retain its historic focus of
science, engineering, and technology.
At the same time, further integration with West Virginia University will
allow WVU Tech to deliver broader and more diversified programs of liberal arts
and human and behavioral studies. The
vibrant and scintillating characteristics of Tech will attract substantial
increases in institutional support. A
major benefit will be a higher level of assistance available to students,
allowing more students than ever to receive the coveted WVU Tech degree.
Institutional
Goals - In
order to accomplish the WVU Tech vision, the following institutional goals have
been established:
Students -
Attract
and retain a highly capable student body.
Faculty
and Staff -
Attract and retain qualified faculty and staff committed to professional
development, scholarly and creative activities, and a quality learning
environment.
Programs -
Offer
academic programs that enhance the ability of students to be critical thinkers,
lifelong learners, and responsible and ethical citizens.
Service - Create a campus culture
of service that supports and promotes economic and cultural development.
Environment
- Foster
an environment that promotes excellence, values diversity, and supports
personal growth.
Resources
- Acquire
and effectively utilize the financial, human, informational, and physical
resources needed to fulfill the mission of WVU Tech.
