Four Frequently asked questions about MasterIDs

 

What is a Master ID?

A MasterID is a single identification given to students, faculty, and staff members to access several electronic services and several electronic systems at WVU Tech and within the WVU System.  The following table includes a list of services and systems available through use of a WVU Tech ID account and through use of a WVU Master ID account.

Why do I have two MasterIDs: a WVU Tech ID and a WVU MasterID?

The electronic services and electronic systems at WVU Tech are not fully integrated with the services and systems in the WVU System.  The WVU Office of Information Technology (OIT) staff on the WVU Tech campus is working to change the WVU Tech IDs to match the WVU MasterIDs.  Currently, most faculty members’ and staff members’ WVU Tech IDs match their WVU MasterIDs.  There are some faculty members’ and staff members’ whose WVU Tech IDs do not match their WVU MasterID.  None of the students’ WVU Tech IDs match their WVU MasterIDs.  We will continue to refer to them as different IDs until all students, faculty and staff have the same ID for WVU Tech and the WVU System electronic services and electronic systems even though many faculty and staff have this benefit.

 

Since the MasterID is the same for services and systems is the password the same?

In general, the answer is no!  The password for the WVU Tech LAN, the Intraweb, and the FrontPage web editor are synchronized, that is the same.  The password for the Magic Self-Service Help Desk and WVU Environmental Health and Safety Exams are not the same.  Whenever you access the login page for a WVU Tech or a WVU System service or system, a means to acquire or recover a password for that service or system is available. After you obtain your WVU Tech ID and/or your WVU Master ID, go to the login page for the service or system to obtain or recover your password.

 

I have login information for a service (system) but it still does not work.  Why doesn’t it work?

The most common reason for this problem is the password for the service(system) has expired.  Passwords currently expire every 60 days.  For example, if you can no longer log into the Intraweb, change the password for your WVU Tech ID Account.  After you change the password, you will most likely be able to log into the Intraweb.  Otherwise, use the help information on the pages you access from the above links.
